A lesson in humility.
The Pharisees invited Jesus and His disciples for a meal on the Sabbath. Jesus finds Himself in an unfriendly environment that He turns into an opportunity to glorify God. He is going to show the Pharisees and scribes love by teaching them and pointing them toward God. The parable teaching is that to be exalted one must first be humble and those who are prideful will be humbled.
